There is no beautifier of complexion, or form, or behavior, like the wish to scatter joy and not pain around us.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Scatter Joy Photos is built on my guiding philosophy to "Scatter Joy,” a quote coined by Ralph Waldo Emerson. As someone with a passion for photography and having been born with "Joy" as my middle name, I have come to embrace this phrase in everything I do.

I took my very first photography course in college and immediately fell in love while studying abroad in Florence, Italy. The process of capturing, editing, and then printing is truly an amazing experience and has brought me so much joy. Despite my love for photography, I studied something else in college and it was not until I graduated that I realized I had to return to my love for beauty and photos so I then studied photography and graphic design.

Since then, I have taken thousands of photos, been in photo exhibitions, photographed very important people and  events, created numerous photo books, and had photos published. Photography is a very rewarding artform. It is something that never grows old and constantly challenges me to go farther with my skill and creativity. I love capturing beauty and sharing it with others and it is my hope to somehow scatter joy to others through my photos.

My dream one day is to travel the world and photograph even more. But in the meantime, I live a very happy life in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area with my wonderful husband where I do freelance graphic design and photography. View my graphic design work: Scatter Joy Designs

The image to the left is one of my favorites and one of my earliest! While struggling to determine the path I'd take after college, I happened upon this quote:

"The place God calls you to
is the place where your deep joy
and the world's deep hunger meet."
- Henri Nouwen

This quote changed my direction from a career of Education, something I did not love, to Graphic Design & Photograph, something that stirred a deep sense of JOY within me!

Only God would know that I would need these skills to help my mom, Judy Squier, with her first book in addition to many other amazing projects! It's been a blessing to do photography and most definitely fills my soul!

Right now I'm working with other Christian photographers on a project pairing our photos with Bible verses. Our hope is to make it through as much of the Bible as possible. If you'd like to check out our work, please visit our site:
